Firies NS is proud to be involved in the Gaelbhratach Programme since 2022.
The scheme was established in response to the need to create natural opportunities to speak Irish outside of the formal classroom setting. The scheme officially began at primary level in the 2012/13 school year. In the years since, the scheme has worked with every kind of school in all corners of the country.
In 2023 Firies NS received a ‘Teastas’ from the programme, signalling successful completion of Year 1. In June 2024, we received our first school flag from the scheme. We are now in Year 3 of Gaelbhratach and we are working towards our second flag. Staff and students at Firies NS are very enthusiastic about this programme. We have established a Coiste for staff members and students. We meet regularly to discuss ways we can improve and promote Gaeilge in our school. Everyone is involved in this programme.
Thus far:
We have learnt and performed Amhrán Na bhFiann for Seachtain na Gaeilge (2023, 2024). https://fb.watch/npFCeLbBGg/
We partner older classes with younger classes to practice our comhrá Gaeilge. We have agreed Feidhmeanna Teanga for each class level so we always know the standard of Irish we are trying to reach for our class group.
We make Irish dramas/films. Click on the link to watch ‘Maidin Mhaith’ starring Senior Infants 2022/2023. https://fb.watch/npFInq_DL3/
