The village of Firies witnessed a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle this past week, as Siamsa Tíre came alive with the electrifying performances of The Lion King, proudly presented by the children of Firies N.S. For two unforgettable nights, 260 students from the school transported audiences to the Pride Lands, delivering a performance so extraordinary it could rival the West End itself.

From the moment the curtains rose, it was evident that this was no ordinary school production. The children of Firies N.S. brought the story of The Lion King to life with amazing singing, mesmerizing dance routines, and superb acting. The sheer coordination of having all 260 children on stage for the entire performance was nothing short of remarkable. Every single child shone, each more brilliant than the next, moving together in perfect harmony as their dance routines unfolded with precision, energy, and joy. The sight of 260 young performers moving in unison, all heading in the same direction with flawless timing, left the audience in awe. “The energy and enthusiasm they brought to the stage was truly something to behold,” said Principal Claire Doyle.

The opening gymnastics routine by the talented 5th and 6th class girls set the tone with a dazzling display of energy and skill. This was followed by a mesmerising Irish dance performance choreographed by Alice Chambers, whose dancers—past and present—enchanted the crowd with their seamless movements and passion for tradition.

Special moments abounded. Sisters Aoibheann and Victoria captivated the audience with their breathtaking contemporary solo dances, fresh from claiming first place at the prestigious Grand Finals in Dublin. The sheer precision and grace of these young performers left the crowd spellbound. World Champion Marcus O’Sullivan brought a sense of awe with his vibrant Irish dancing, lighting up the stage with an effortless blend of energy and mastery that earned thunderous applause. The rhythmic drumming ensemble closed the opening act with an African-inspired performance that pulsated with life and transported the audience to the savannah.

The success of this landmark production is a testament to the dedication and vision of the Firies N.S. staff and children, as well as the unwavering support of the local community. Every detail, from the handcrafted animal masks, face painting and props to the vibrant costumes supplied by Tralee Musical Society, bore the mark of exceptional effort and creativity.

Special recognition is owed to Bryan Carr of the Bryan Carr School of Performing Arts, whose directorial expertise elevated the show to professional standards. His guidance, coupled with the tireless contributions of Firies N.S. staff, ensured that every song, dance, and line was executed with precision and heart.

The two nights were more than a performance; they were a celebration of community, talent, and resilience. For Firies, a village that had never before experienced such a grand production, The Lion King was a beacon of joy and inspiration. The children of Firies N.S., whose hard work and boundless enthusiasm shone brightly, reminded everyone of the power of creativity and collaboration.

This production lifted the spirits of the entire community, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come. To all involved—performers, staff, parents, and supporters—thank you for making Firies roar with pride. Bravo!
