School Ethos

Firies National School operates under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Kerry.

The school fosters a sense of community between management, staff, parents and pupils, with a sense of belonging to the wider community of Firies parish.

The Principal Teacher and staff work to make the school a centre of excellence in which high professional standards are maintained and where pupils learn in a safe and happy environment. Close contact is maintained between the school and the home.

Parents and teachers support one another and collaborate with one another as partners in leading the young pupils to the fullness of their potential at the different stages of their development. Teachers are encouraged to develop their personal and professional talents. The school aims at promoting the full and harmonious development of all aspects of the pupil, including his/her relationship with God, with other people and with the environment.

Prayer is a feature of the school day. The pupils are prepared for the reception of the sacraments of First Confession, First Holy Communion and Confirmation, in accordance with the arrangements in the Kerry Diocese. We, as a staff wish to instil in the children a sense of appreciation of the deep sense of heritage in their own traditions and locality. We wish to see balanced, well-rounded, self-confident, mannerly and co-operative pupils.
